Nuclear Power

Polyurea is important in the nuclear power industry.

Tests on polyurea coatings performed in the late 1990s demonstrated that nuclear contamination can be mitigated with a single water rinse, and the polyurea coating is radiation resistant.

In transporting radioactive waste, polyurea is used to coat the inside of railcars. SPI polyurea outperformed spray polyureas and polyurea hybrids from other manufacturers that failed to stand up to the rigors of the application.

Unlike polyurea, epoxy coatings crack and require continual maintenance. A polyurea seamless coating provides a strong membrane that is 100% free of pinholes and flaws. It is extremely flexible, highly chemical, weather and corrosion resistant.

With its great adhesion to metal or concrete, polyurea forms a protective barrier from hazardous and dangerous materials and waste. Polyurea linings are resistant to many chemicals and industrial liquids.

With its fast application advantages and ability to adhere to properly prepared substrates, polyureas are ideal for primary lining and rehabilitation projects.
