Primary Containment System

Leak Prevention

Job Description: The inside of epoxy coated concrete tanks were sweep grit blasted, followed by epoxy grouting of obvious cracks. POLYSHIELD SS-100® was then applied at 60-80 MILS (1½-2MM) on tank floors and walls.

The tanks are used to contain lime solution. When converted to deionized boiler water storage, the concrete floors and walls were prepared and coated with a 12 mil epoxy system.

Leakage was observed when the tanks were filled with water. Bechtel Corpora-tion contacted Hydrodynamics for suggested remedial coating. Hydrodynamics recommended POLYSHIELD SS-100® due to Polyshield's elastomeric quality.

Follow-up Inspection: October 1996, the owner was contacted regarding performance of the tanks. SPI was informed that the POLYSHIELD SS-100® is performing according to expectations.
