Stabilized Earth Wall Gets Coated for Land Fill
Job
Description: The
City of Bend, Oregon was in search of a fast cure coating to reinforce
the 1,250 foot long retaining wall of the city land fill. POLYSHIELD
SS-100® was chosen based on its superior strength, ability
to bond tenaciously to the existing geotextile fabric, as well
as for the fast turnaround time (tack free in less than a minute).
An additional benefit of using the POLYSHIELD SS-100® is the
ability to spray any thicknes in a single application. The application
of POLYSHIELD SS-100® reinforced the wall and eliminated leaks
through the fabric. Coating the woven geotextile fabric with POLYSHIELD
SS-100® increased landfill capacity by 1.2 million cubic yards,
resulting in an additional two to four years of service life at
the facility.
Other
Coatings Evaluated for Project: CIM, a urethane coating, was
also considered for this project, but found to be impractical
due to the slow rate of cure in the relative working temperatures
along with the fact that it would take multiple coats, further
delaying project completion. It was also determined that this
coating could not effectively penetrate the geotextile fabric
that wrapped the wall.
