Polyshield Steel Protection

Job Description: 60 ft. in length by 3 ft. in diameter steel pilings were blasted to a 2-3 mil anchor profile. The steel was primed using SPI EP 100 Primer. The SPI POLYSHIELD HT™ HP/UV Black was applied using a lathe and carriage method at 120 mils to the area of piling that is above the ocean floor and to a depth of 3 ft. below the ocean floor. The pilings were driven into the ocean floor along the coast. 1700 pilings were coated and protected with SPI POLYSHIELD HT™ HP/UV Black.

SPI POLYSHIELD HT™ was chosen for its excellent physical properties, corrosion protection, adhesion to steel, and ability to withstand the forces of pile driving, as well as the inability for marine borers to penetrate the coating. More than 25,000 gals. of SPI POLYSHIELD HT™ HP/UV Black was used on this project.

Other Coatings Evaluated for Project: Epoxy, polyurethane and other polyureas.
