Protective Linings

Job Description: The concrete floor was shotblasted, cracks and control joints were filled with epoxy sealant and the floor surface primed with penetrating epoxy primer. SPI Hi-EPC 21798® was chosen because it could be applied in one coat and easily cut to facilitate future equipment installations. The original plans called for an aliphatic urethane top coat, but the owner was pleased with SPI Hi-EPC 21798® as a stand-alone, negating the need and expense of a topcoat as well as expediting project completion. Dan Thomas, from FD Thomas, stated that he is very pleased with the SPI polyurea field patch kits.

Follow-up Inspection: The owner is pleased with the SPI Hi-EPC 21798® and has subsequently awarded FD Thomas a contract for an even larger floor at a new facility using the same system commencing mid March 2000.

Other Coatings Evaluated for Project: Nipolam sheet material and several polyurethane deck coatings were considered but rejected because of one or more factors such as drying too slow, failure on outgas testing, insufficient elongation and the number of coats needed. Epoxies were also considered but were deemed to rigid.
