Protective Linings

Job Description: Sixty-eight year old concrete tunnel was renovated to restore damaged areas of concrete and fix water problems. The previous coatings had cracked and peeled in a short period of time. The entire Tunnel was sandblasted to remove the old coatings, cleaned with a high pressure wash and then primed with PS-70 Primer. A 50 mil coating of POLYSHIELD SS-100™ was then applied.

The North Carolina DOT had previously used epoxies and paints and were dissatisfied with the performance of these coatings. the North Carolina DOT chose POLYSHIELD SS-100™ because of the good strength and elasticity of the coating. The coating will preserve the concrete and can be easily cleaned with a high pressure wash, therefore reducing maintenance cost.

Other Coatings Evaluated for Project: Paints and epoxy coatings.
