Job
Description: After
a surveyed layout of new markings was completed (including engineering
adjustments made for new aircraft ramps) old tarmac markings were
removed with ultra-high water pressure. The markings were put
down with Ramp Engineering's patented application system using
Specialty Products, Inc.'s AMP-100 (Aliphatic Modified Polyurea)
with AE-4 (Adhesion Enhancing) additive. Reflective glass spheres
were added to the second 20 mil coat of AMP-100. The striping
colors applied were yellow, red, white, blue and black. This is
the first job in which reflective spheres were added to the stream
of polyurea. Ramp Engineering has applied for and received a patent
on this process.
Continental
Airlines is very satisfied with the final product. The Port Authority
(NY/NJ) is writing a specifi-cation to use polyurea for future
aviation projects.
Follow-up
Inspection: A
2-year inspection shows total adhesion on concrete and good color
stability.
Other
Coatings Evaluated for Project: No
other coatings were evaluated for this project. Line-striping
paint had been used prior to this new polyurea application.
